How It Works

Enter your bill subtotal, tax rate, tip (percent or fixed) and any extra charges. The calculator adds tax, tip and extras to get the final total, then divides it by the party size for a fair per‑person amount.

You can use percent or fixed tip. Percent tip is applied to (Subtotal + Tax). Extras are added after tip (e.g., delivery fee, service charge).

  • Sales Tax = Subtotal × Tax Rate
  • Tip = (Subtotal + Tax) × Tip% or Fixed Amount
  • Total = Subtotal + Tax + Tip + Additional Charges
  • Each Person Pays = Total ÷ Party Size

Worked Example

Example: split $85.50 for 6 people with 8.25% tax and 15% tip → Tax = 85.50 × 8.25% ≈ 7.05; Tip = (85.50 + 7.05) × 15% ≈ 13.88; Total ≈ 106.43; Per‑person ≈ 106.43 ÷ 6 = 17.74. Add any service/delivery fees as Additional Charges and recalculate.

Common Scenarios

Restaurant dinner

Split the check with tax and tip included—perfect for birthdays or team dinners.

Delivery order

Add delivery fee and tip for the driver, then share the total fairly.

Group trip

Include booking fees and service charges to split lodging or activity costs.

Office event

Divide catering invoices across attendants with transparent per‑person totals.

Best Practices

  • Agree on tip rules before ordering (percent vs fixed).
  • Round per‑person totals up to the nearest cent to avoid disputes.
  • Use notes for extras like delivery and service charges.
  • If prices exclude tax (US), keep your tax rate handy—rates vary by state/city.

Regional Notes

  • US: Sales tax is often not included in menu prices; typical gratuity is 15–20%.
  • UK/EU: VAT is usually included in the price; service charge may be optional.
  • Canada: Provincial tax varies; tipping customs are similar to the US.
