Carpool Cost Splitter
Split gas, tolls and parking fairly — by distance or evenly. Save and share the breakdown.
How It Works
Add trip expenses like gas, tolls and parking. Then add each passenger with the miles they travel.
Choose a split method: by distance (fairly adjusts by miles) or evenly (same amount for everyone).
- Distance Split = Total Cost × (Your Miles ÷ Total Miles)
- Even Split = Total Cost ÷ Number of Passengers
Worked Example
Example: split $52.00 (gas $40, tolls $8, parking $4) by distance for 3 riders: 12, 8, 4 miles → Total miles = 24. A = 52 × (12/24) = $26.00; B = 52 × (8/24) ≈ $17.33; C = 52 × (4/24) ≈ $8.67.
Common Scenarios
Daily commute
Split regular commuting costs fairly based on distance each colleague travels.
Road trip
Include gas, tolls and parking for weekend getaways and long-distance drives.
Airport pickup
Add parking and tolls, then split by miles from pickup to drop-off.
Event carpool
Share costs for concerts, sports games, and conferences—by distance or evenly.
Best Practices
- Track start/end mileage or use map distance for accuracy.
- Agree on toll/parking handling beforehand (some prefer even split).
- Round shares to the nearest cent and keep a small buffer for extras.
- Use miles or kilometers consistently across all riders.
Regional Notes
- US: Consider toll roads and downtown parking fees; distances in miles.
- EU/UK: Fuel prices and tolls vary widely; distances in km.
- BR: Pedágios and parking fees vary by state; use R$ and km for consistency.
